Thinking of moving from Philadelphia, where "farm animals" are not allowed in city limits, this includes pot bellied pigs, ducks, and so on.

Are these types of animals allowed as pets in Richmond? I was looking forward to perhaps building a small pond and having a pair of ducks to wherever I move.

Are you looking at Richmond itself or a suburb of Richmond? Basically you want to find property that is zoned A-1.

Richmond VA

Richmond aint Hooterville, and Arnold and Daffy aren't welcome. You would need to move into an area zoned rural/agricultural - just like PA

Here's the rule for Richmond residential areas:

Quote:

Raising or keeping of domestic animals for noncommercial purposes on lots occupied by single-family dwellings,
provided that all pens, runs, out-buildings and other facilities for the housing or enclosure of such animals shall be
located not less than 200 feet from all property lines. The restrictions set forth in this subsection shall not apply to
the keeping of dogs, cats or other household pets

"building a small pond and having a pair of ducks"

The pond and quacking ducks would be difficult to conceal.

Property in the city (Richmond itself) and the portions of the surrounding counties usually considered an integral part of Richmond (west Henrico, north Chesterfield) doesn't usually have lots that I would think would be smart enough to conceal ducks. Your mileage may vary.

Actually male ducks are very quiet, and their quacking is a lot more subtle than female ducks. Since I plan on adopting a pair of males, they wouldn't be a nuisance in terms of noise. And in building a pond, I was planning on that in a fenced in backyard.

I think it would heavily depend on where you live- were you planning on living right in the city? There are many places that are "country" but easily within driving distance of the city for work.
