Hello,
My husband and I are an interracial couple with two biracial children. We are considering moving to the Short Pump area of Richmond (after some research online), but I wanted to see if I could get any insight from residents on the acceptance of diversity in that area. We currently live in a pretty diverse area and I want our children to continue to thrive in an accepting environment, specifically the schools.
Thank you for any insight you can provide!

You'll be fine. I've been in two interracial relationships and some people look at you funny, but you will not encounter any problems.

My children are biracial (white and black) and we live in Short Pump. It's never been an issue. Short Pump is getting less and less Caucasian. Most of the diversity is Asians and Indians.

If you go on schooldigger.com, you can find the breakdown at each school by race. They only have through 2011, though, and I will say the demographics have changed a lot even in the past two years.

Great, thank you both for your comments. This is so helpful for us in making our decision. I will definitely check out schooldigger.com as well.

Thirty melting years ago Richmond was black and white. Today it is a true melting pot of cultures, races, etheniticities, religions etc.. Come on down!

Have known black professionals who lived in short pump area, and they never had an issue - it seems to thankfully not be an issue anywhere in Richmond.
