Im a little confused as to where to stay. We would like to be close to I-81 and to a bit of shopping since we plan on checking in early afternoon. I have booked Courtyard by Mariott which i was told is a few miles from I-81 so is it correct the amount of time would be between 5 to 10 minutes to get to this hotel? I see there is a Burlington coat factory and a few other stores to pass some time.
Also what is the difference in the areas, i see a few areas have some shopping malls but how far are they to I-81 compared to Courtyard Marriott area?

Courtyard by Marriott is perfect for your needs. There are lots of restaurants,
Valley View Mall and a short ride to downtown via I-581 and the City Market area. Roanoke is very easy to navigate!

Courtyard Marriott is in a semi-strange location, behind WDBJ 7 studios while other hotels including; best western, hyatt place and a few others are right in the mall area. Courtyard is a nice hotel and is not too far from shopping.. just be a bit weary of ventureing out away from the mall area on this side of Roanoke.
