My husband and eighth-grade son are thinking about moving to the Lexington, Christiansburg area. We live in an Atlanta suburb and loath the smog, traffic, transience, chain restaurants, etc. Our primary criteria is to find a high school where our son can get academic assistance for his attention issues as well as play lacrosse. Our son has 150 IQ, so he's no dummy, but he struggles mightily with the repetition of school. He needs extra time on tests and some similar accommodations...not special ed. I would gratefully appreciate any assistance.

Sorry but if you are interested in Christiansburg, I don't think they have any special needs programs that address your needs. Christiansburg only has one high school. However, there are a number of commercial tutors in town.

You may want to cast your net wider and consider nearby Roanoke. William Fleming has special education classes and they have a lacrosse team.

Cave Spring in Roanoke County is one of the best schools around, and they have good athletics but no lacrosse. Salem High is a really good school as well and they have a lacrosse team. There aren't many schools in SW Va with lacrosse teams though.

If you don't mind paying for his education North Cross in Roanoke has a great Lacrosse team and smaller class sizes might help him focus. It is pricey however.
