My husband is currently looking at a job opportunity in Roanoke. We drove up there last weekend to look around as we had never been there before.

We are originally from Arizona (Phx), but have been living in Cary, NC for the past 3 years and love it here.

We were surprised in driving around that we couldn't seem to find any new home builders. Are there no new home builders besides custom builders? We have only ever lived in new homes, so we tend to be kinda picky about what we are looking for in a house.

We have 3 kids (6th grade, 4th Grade & 1st Grade). We have heard great things about the Cave Spring area. We drove around there over the weekend. It looked nice, but it also looked established. Are there any new areas for young families where we should concentrate on looking, aside from Cave Spring? Personally, I would love to live in a neighborhood that has a community pool. We're looking to spend @ $350,000-$400,000.

I can't remember the name, but across from sunscape apartments in the SW Roanoke area is a development of all new homes, but I can't remember the exact price range. However it couldn't hurt to look. I think they were around your budget... 300k and up I think..

The development mentioned above would be Colonial Green.

Try searching Boone Graham Thomas, they're a primarily new home builder with several subdivisons in the Cave Spring/Southwest County area. There are also several new developments in the Salem area as well, and I would recommend either place as both have good schools and community. With Roanoke's low cost of living, a $350-400k budget can go pretty far here.

Thank you for the information. I saw a few existing homes online that I liked in the NW part of Roanoke, with Bonsack Elementary listed as the local school. It was listed on Great Schools as a 9. Is that a nice area, or should I concentrate my search in the Cave Spring/Hidden Valley area?

Bonsack area is very popular - with some going to Roanoke County Schools (Bonsack El) and some going to Botetourt County Schools (Cloverdale El, I think it is).

It is NE and not NW though.
