My husband just took a position in Rochester and will be moving up there next week. I found an apartment for him online in the Medical Arts building on Alexander street. I had to do everything online/by phone so we haven't actually seen the place yet. I'm wondering if there is anyone on here who either lives there or has been to the building and can tell me more about it. I understand it has recently undergone a huge renovation. He spent 2004 in Rochester so he's somewhat familiar with the area. Last time he had an apartment on East Avenue.
I'm also curious about what there is to do around the building as far as restaurants/shops etc.
Thanks in advance!
Welcome to Rochester. I have been to the Medical Arts building on Alexander St a few times, and it is a very nice building. The apartments have good layouts, nice appliances, and unobstructed views of the area. They also have fireplaces and underground parking is available. Inside the building are also an art gallery, a salon, offices, Gusto (italian cafe), The Old Toad (authentic British pub and restaurant), and the building owner/manager's office. Outside, there are numerous restaurants on the block, such as Bamba Bistro, Pita Pit, Veneto (brick oven pizza and italian). On Park Avenue there are clothing and gift shops, and more art galleries.
I almost moved here, but I chose buckingham commons, another recent renovation downtown, instead. It had more square feet for the same price.
I didn't see Buckingham Commons during my search. oh well!
My husband is looking forward to seeing the apt. One of the main reasons I chose this particular one was for the underground parking. The last time he spent a year in Rochester the weather did a number on our car! This way he'll be close enough to walk to work.
I'm glad to hear that there are many restaurants and shops nearby. I'm sure the only use the stove will get is when the kids and I come up to visit.
