I often wondered why Wegmans never built a store in Victor or Farmington and deduced that Wades, as a family owned business owned that territory so why be a bully and put them out of business. But not Tops. The article clearly says that Wades was " forced" out of the store. I don't know. I've never had a good feeling about Tops and this kind of insures that feeling. Just wondering if others feel this way and if they might boycott the new Tops.
Not to many years ago when drug stores were popping up on every corner, a much loved family dinner was displaced on Stone Rd, near Dewey. The neighborhood was so upset that they put the newly built store out of business within weeks.

I have in-law family that has worked at Wades and is very familiar with the family on a personal level. The last I heard/understood, is that the Wade children for the most part wanted nothing to do with the business and essentially drove it in to the ground, prompting the sale of the business. So to see this article blaming Tops for the shut down is kind of surprising. I'm going to have to ask about it and see what kind of answers I get, though I'm also wondering if the transition from the Wade to the Cheney family plays any part in this development. Maybe some bad blood between the Wade family and the landlord or maybe even the current family? Or maybe Tops just offered up an offer the landlord couldn't refuse, in which case it's all business and nothing personal.
