Hello.

I keep hearing horror stories about landlords and property managers being neglectful (about repairs, etc) in midtown. Does anyone have any good stories about landlords/property managers in midtown?
I am looking to move into a 1bed/1bath apartment in midtown in a couple of months. My rent limit is $800. I'm hoping to find a place that is decent. I'm not necessarily looking for extra amenities or anything. Just looking for landlords with good customer service that keep up their properties.

Thanks for your time!

With an $800 maximum rent cap, "awesome" is probably out of the question but if you're lucky you can find "acceptable." I'd recommend looking into a CADA low-income unit: CADA They are good about maintenance and care of their units.

Thanks. That is exactly what I meant by "awesome"

I have actually been looking at CADA for some time, since I've heard good things about them. They never seem to have any one-bedrooms available. Is anyone having a good experience or has anyone had a good experience with any other landlords or property managers?

Perhaps I should clarify what I mean by "awesome": I simply mean owners that take care of their units so that there aren't a lot of issues like heaters not working, gas leaks, pipes breaking and flooding the apartment, etc. Also, I mean that if there are issues, they are reasonably prompt about fixing them. From my understanding (based on what I've heard from people I have met in the area), this would be great in midtown for my price range. Perhaps it would have been better to simply say "decent" or "good" in the title of the thread. Is CADA the only decent/good owner renting out apartments?

I rent from CADA. Most units are not low-income, they're just priced lower because they're older properties. CADA has a dedicated maintenance department and I've been happy with the service. Things like graffiti and leaks they'll fix the same or next day, it took a little prodding to get them to fix the washer when it broke. It's a cool area to live in, and there's a lot of new things opening in the neighborhood

I had an awesome "mom and pop" landlord whose name I just pm'd to you. They do exist.

However my 1-bed was $940 in 2011 so I'm not sure if your rent goal is going to work out.

Thank you for your help :-) I will keep an eye out for anything that opens with CADA. @bentobox34: Unfortunately, I could not find the landlord when I Googled him, but I will keep my eyes open for him in listings.
