Impact of 2002 Winter Olympics on Quality of Life? (Herriman: crime, buying a home)

How has the 2002 winter Olympics affected the quality of life in SLC/PC 12 years later? What are a few of your favorite improvements? What Olympic facility or venue, do you wish you had the $$ or time to enjoy more (eg Utah Oval)?

I didn't live in Utah during the 2002 winter Olympics, but I do very much enjoy the speed skating venue.

Never lived in Utah, but I here the highways and Downtown improved because of it. Wish Denver got to host.

The I-15 was a two lane HIGHWAY prior to the Olympics. We barely survived the years and years of reconstruction and now are boggled at how busy those freeways are.

Is it an improvement? Not really. It brought more people, smog, etc. to the valley. Some call that "economic development". Whatever.

TRAX has mitigated some of that destruction - but not all.

I longed for the days when I-15 was a 4 lane road and I could run an errand at 4:30 from Cottonwood Hts to Downtown, park, head up the Judge Bldg and down, and be back at the store in Cottonwood Hts. (7200 S. 2300 E.) in well under an hour total. Them days are long gone. Too many people, too much crime and now of course add the pollution. When we moved buying a home in Herriman in 2003, the road into Herriman was a country 2 lane road with little traffic. Now 13400 South is like a Freeway with 6 lanes and tons of traffic nearly continually. For 2 months after we moved in you could hear a pin drop from 7pm to 8am in the morning. Yeah, those days are long gone too. They can't seem to build enough homes up there now and the according noise and traffic comes with it. Quality of life? It's out the door

Really, just traffic/housing congestion and highway/transit improvements? This is true in the largest city of every state, and very few US states have had the opportunity to host an Olympic Games.

Liquor laws changed some and downtown nightlife improved.
