My husband and I went to check it out yesterday. All I've got to say is, "Wow! Amazing! Incredible!"

This is a must-see for everyone in the Salt Lake area. The only negative is that it was extremely crowded (which is obviously good in a way). It might be good to wait for the crowds to lighten up, but do not miss this museum.

Well, the old Natural History Museum was in what was once (like 40 years ago) the old library on Presidents' Circle. This is a brand new building just next door to the south of Red Butte Gardens. Here's a link. The old museum was closed several months back. This is a new building, which is able to display on the order of 3600 artifacts (something like double that of the old museum). It's give stories high. On the fifth floor is a Sky Terrace where you can walk out and see a breath-taking view of the Salt Lake Valley. The new museum has only been open for a week.

Thanks for the clarification. I was thinking of where the Leonardo is, thought maybe they were sharing the buildings.

No, it has nothing to do with the Leonardo, another place I'd like to visit in the near future.

I used to take the kiddos to the 'old' Natural History Museum when they had 1st Monday free days, when my kids weren't in school. It was a drive, but we loved it. Will need to check out the new updates. =)

Thanks for the review, Katzpur.
How long would you say would be a good amount of time to devote to a visit?

A week.

No, seriously, several hours. We were there for about two hours, saw everything on a very superficial basis but plan to return to spend more time actually making it a learning experience.

I'm a history & math person, & can read historical signs for hours (yes, I'm kind of a nerd ) . Would the longer tour be more of a tour that would be better taken by myself while my hyper 8yo boy & 7yo girl are in school? lol Last time we went was, um, I think earlier 2008 when the kids were 3 & 4. I felt like I was running through most of it.

On a side note, do they still do 1st Monday free day anymore? =)

Yeah, probably.

I don't know. I posted a link to their website on my post #3. You might call them and see what they say.

Do me a favor... Whether you go alone or take your kids, let me know if you're as impressed as I was, okay?
