I am a devoted reader of Dooce - her wry, black sense of humor about being a mother and stuff about UT is sooo funny! Try www.dooce.com and I think you will be as interested as I am. She lives in SLC and has won some national awards. She posts 3 pictures every day: 1 could be anything from a rock concert in SF to an elephant at the zoo (quite talented as photog), one is of her dogs, and one is "style."

Oh yeah, they did a story about her on the news. I'll check it out even though I'm assuming she has a feminine point of view, which isn't bad, just not catering to me

I also so a story about her and her blog on our local news. I barely have enough time to come here. I can't add another blog to my list. But if I had the time, hers would be a blog I would read.

Yeah, I've read her blog before. I actually thought it was pretty depressing. She sounds really bitter and unhappy.

Maybe you were reading when she had just had Leta? She eventually was hospitalized for postpartum depression. Or maybe we have different takes on humor.

That's possible, I suppose. I haven't read it for a long time. I just remember she was very crass, used lots of bad language, and said really rude things about her family, their religion, her upbringing, and Utahns in general. She sounded bitter and angry and mean. Maybe she's mellowed since then.

Ummm, maybe a little. Still uses bad language, still says what LDS might think was rude about the religion, calmer about her family and Utah. I find a lot of her stuff very touching, e.g., when she wrote about her stepfather having a cancer scare and how devastating it was.

I find some of the language a little strong also. Heather has a point of view, no doubt. I wonder why she wants to live here and not someplace super hip like Austin. Though really, I think Austinites are happier. What is it about exiting the Mormon thing that makes people so weird?

Well not everyone can do that. Some have careers that are where they are. I'd seriously consider Austin if that were where my husband's career took him, but it's not. I'm glad to have the choices I do though--not everyone has choices. You get promoted and you go.

Her family is here, I believe. Certainly she talks about Leta spending the night at one or the other grandparents' houses.
