I'm more than a bit shocked at the lack of rental housing available in Park City. I listed an apartment for rent (1 year lease required) and was inundated with email inquiries. For example:

* out-of-town families offering to sign a lease just based on web photos,
* locals desperate to move because their current housing is bad
* people sending me stacks of recommendations without my asking
* people offering me 25% more than my asking rate
* I've even had employers contact me directly recommending their employee for the apartment
* parents contacting me telling me they will co-sign

I've been told that housing available out there has significant drawbacks, including leaking roofs and plumbing, disgustingly dirty, etc etc.

Yes, there are many affluent families that can offer cash to purchase a million dollar home -- I'm not talking about that end of the market. I'm talking about the end of the housing market for long-term service employees - office managers, full-time resort employees, public sector employees and the like.

Frankly, I'm shocked.

There was an interesting article on this very thing posted today: In resort towns, working class squeezed out as rich move in

It's mostly about Aspen but it mentions PC as well.

I'm not shocked I would assume most service employees rent in Heber/Midway to the south or Summit Park/Jeremy Ranch to the north. I do so just before ski season a bunch of seasonal rentals pop up on KSL for the skiing support community.
