A friend of mine sent this article to me. Is there any truth to this?

Big Brother

Buy a drink in Utah; you're in a government database

In the state of Utah, if you go into a club and purchase a drink, and if you appear to be "35 years old or younger," a new state law requires the bartender or waiter to electronically scan your driver's license in order to verify your age. Of course, scanning your license electronically provides a database of who is purchasing alcoholic beverages, where, when and it what quantities; information then available to the government.Moderator cut: can't quote whole articles, only 1-2 sentences and link

Although I have nothing to hide this does concern me. Can anyone shed any light on this?

Thank you

the new scanning is only on record for 7 days, then it is purged. It is what our fine lawmakers got in trade for getting rid of the membership at private club thing. it really is not a big deal-unless you are not 21 and have a fake license...

In that case, I'll take it.

They even scan your DL at Target when you by Nyquil. But the cops don't get any info on what you purchased, nor could they ever get it through court as justification for a stop. It just makes it easier for cashiers to avoid mistakes. Apparently, counting to 21 is difficult for some people.
