Hey all,
This afternoon the bird in the photo below was hanging out by our pool. My husband and I were thinking maybe female green heron but we looked at photos and think the bill is too short. Any ideas? (hope the photo shows up!) Thanks!

Google a picture of a juvenile Yellow-crowned Night-Heron. I think that is what it is.

Awesome, thank you! That's exactly what it is. Hopefully it will figure out soon that it won't find much to eat in our pool...

Thanks for sharing the picture, beautiful bird! Have you seen water birds hanging around your pool before, of is this a first?

This is definitely the first water bird - it hung out for a good couple hours. We have a ton of other birds - doves, cardinals, hummingbirds, etc - but this was the first water bird. It was quite cool!

This is a beautiful picture, worthy of framing and displaying! I even recommend it for any future (legitimate) photo contests you may hear about or come across. You might win a cash prize. Good job!

Thanks so much! I have to give props to my husband - he's the photographer.
