Might be moving to San Antonio and seeking advice on the following:

1. Have two high school-aged girls, 14 and 15 years of age, and wonder where the best public high schools are and even what the overall quality of the public school system is in San Antonio.

2. Good mortgage broker in the area

3. Advice on areas in which to look for (or just browse) houses. Not wanting large or expensive house but not wanting a bad area, either. We've always lived in nicer homes that were of some size but I want to downsize in preparation for the departure of the girls in a few years. In the city or out of it. My office, if I were to get the job, would be in the northwest part of San Antonio on Hausman Road near I-10.

Any advice would be appreciated.

1. There is no single "public school system" in San Antonio. There are 20 school districts in the county. The two largest, NISD and NEISD have some very good high schools. Your job location is in NISD, but I'm not sure which NISD high school covers that area.

Many folks like Alamo Heights ISD, with its one high school, but homes are expensive in that district and tend to be older.

For item 3, we'll need your price range. We can tell you where the million-dollar neighborhoods are, but if your upper limit is $160K, that won't be very helpful.

If you would rather not respond to someone who it's not 100% sure if they're moving to San Antonio, great. But this is an open forum, and there are no limitations on when someone can post and when others may or may not respond to questions.

I responded to the other thread the OP created ten days ago. OP never came back to that one to help us narrow down the search for him/her.

We get a lot of relocation threads here so I do feel that link should be somewhat helpful to read first.

Thanks for telling us what we already know. There is also no limitation with what I (or others) post as well, as long as those posts are within the TOS. I'm sure you already know this.

When I was planning on moving here, I asked questions on this forum and got some good answers, some snarky answers and some that I thought were snarky but really were relevant once I got here.
My best advice is live near where you work if you can because traffic really can be brutal! (that was one that turned relevant!)
I would rent before buying because that gives you a chance to learn what area you really want to be in. There are some great neighborhoods bordered by places I don't want to live near. (And I didn't want planes directly overhead, or sirens all night near a hospital...) All in all, I absolutely am so happy I moved here, but glad I didn't buy right away.
Get a Realtor to do your searching for you! They know the areas and the schools. They get paid by the seller/Leaser. Many help you find a rent so you will call them when looking to buy.
