In high school, students would rave about this Chess House, which was a house in San Antonio that had chess pieces on top.

On googling this, I found nothing except for this video, shot by a former classmate. Proof that it exists but where and what's the backstory?

Is this the same house? This uploader has three videos of it. He says it's in his neighborhood, but he has DFW in his username.

I've never been there personally because I've never been able to locate it, but it does look incredibly similar!

Edit/ I looked at more of his videos, which all take place in Texas. Some are in San Antonio and some are in surrounding areas, so yes, it is very likely that this is the same house!

Now that I see the video, I do recall stories that there was a graveyard around the house too. Spooky! I can't believe I can't find anything on it.

I love the game so my curiosity is instantly piqued. One of those videos states there is a full chess board with pieces set up on the other side of the gate. Unfortunately it is not public property since I would love to play a game on that board. Used to play with friends at restaurants, libraries, parties, on the job, it has been a while...

I believe the Chess House is on Bar X Trail, close to Bar D Trail, in Helotes.

Yep, it's in Helotes; near the top of the hill here; but it's not haunted or at least there is no reason for it to be. The entire story behind it can be read here, starting on page 10.

It is cool though, and especially so during Halloween!

I heard some rumors that San Antonio is the most haunted city. But could it be that San Antonio has the most superstitious people?
I thought the discussions for haunted houses were just during holiday of Halloween, but it's year 'round here.
I'm amazed!
Maybe the house will go up for sale for a price you can't refuse and fix it up. LOL. That's the way all 'A Haunting' stories start out on Discovery.

Oh, and they're not chess pieces, they're English chimney pots like these!

They just look like chess pieces from a distance, and the flat roof of the house gives the appearance of a chess board.

Cheers! M2
