I just bought a house in the sunrise subdivision and I was told that the manufacturer had gone bankrupt several years ago. I was wondering if any of you has any idea who this manufacturer was and where I can get these blueprints. Thank you in advance

If you bought your home through a realtor, the builder's name should have been included in the MLS listing for your home. Your agent can look that up for you. The agent may also be able to point you in the direction of the builder's successor.

Otherwise, one of your neighbors may be able to help identify the builder.

Also, check the permits on the home. The Planning and/or Building Department will have the information as to who the builder was. You may even find the permits posted on a wall in the garage.

These can be very difficult to come by. Many builders will not give blueprints to even the home owner that built the house. I was able to get a copy of the blueprints - but a shrunk down version. The builder usually doesn't make the official blueprints available so that you can't take them elsewhere and use them to build the same plan.

I agree with banker - the original plans could be difficult to track down, even if you could determine who the builder or their successor is. For a custom built home, the person for whom it was built may have been provided a copy of the plans, but most designers consider their drawings to be proprietary, and will not provide them to anyone who was not a party in the original construction of the building.

If the home was located inside city limits when it was built, the city building inspector's office may have an archived copy of the plans. The person obtaining a permit for construction would have had to submit a complete set of plans to get the permit. Problem is, if it is a subdivision of tract homes, and the builder was someone like Ray Ellision, most of those subdivisions were outside city limits when they were developed, so you may be out of luck.
