Hi,

I've read through the sticky relocation topic and browsed what seems like endless apartment hunting sites, but I'm just not finding the information I want. I'm wondering what would be the best area for a single man in his late 20s in San Antonio. A part of town where I can meet more people around my age. I'm coming from Atlanta and have lived in Ft Worth before, so there is no real culture shock for me. Everything seems to be geared towards families, and that isn't what I am really looking for.

Would downtown be my best bet? I am working close to Lackland on US 90, so I wouldn't want to be more than 20-25 mins form there at the most. I expect to pay around $1,000 a month for rent, and that doesn't appear to be out of the line for a decent apartment. Thanks for any suggestions,

Hi, Bob.

Well, it really depends on what your tastes are--and whether you want to be able to walk/bike to the places you drink/socialize at.

If you're more into the artistic/indie vibe, the areas right north (Tobin Hill, Monte Vista) or right south (Southtown, Lavaca) are the best--as well as downtown proper. If you're more of a "mainstream" fellow, there are multiple areas, some of which include the Medical Center area and anything on the north side (e.g., Stone Oak, close to UTSA, etc.). Alamo Heights tends to be more mainstream, but some young folks live there and it's also close to downtown. It is, of course, quite expensive, and I'm not quite sure what the rental situation is like.

Of course, I know far too many people here who drive, get drinks somewhere far from their place, and then somehow drive home. I would not recommend that, although a lot of people here do it.

Welcome!

My husband's single male coworkers all live in apartments around Bandera and 1604. That way they're near the college girls (at UTSA) without the inconvenience of having lots of loud students for neighbors. There are also a lot of restaurants in that area.
