I like the tidbit about digging 40 inches into the ground is "battle level". So does anyone know what property downtown exactly Phil Collins owns/owned?

Maybe Phil Collins should talk to Ozzie Osborn about putting a nice restroom on the grounds. Seems like they need it!

I'm pretty sure it's the small "History Shop" right next door to the Emily Morgan. Inside you'll find 1) an awesome diorama (model of the full Alamo site) and hear a pre-recording of Phil Collins narrating the history of the Alamo events, 2) also see where they've unearthed some battle items under the building.

Tourists/visitors should really go to the History Shop first before going to the Alamo to get a good understanding of the events.

I've been there; it's a beautiful diorama and the narration is good. There are artifacts that you can view as they would look "in situ" but not exactly where they were discovered (from what I remember the staff person saying.)

I was totally shocked when the staffer mentioned that once the city let people purchase stones from the wall back in 1840!! To me, that's like letting someone haul dirt from the battlefields of Gettysburg!!

I'd LOVE to see San Antonio expand the Alamo area out a few blocks and restore the area to how it looked around the time of the battle. Think a living history museum similar to Old Sturbridge Village or Plimoth Plantation in Massachusetts. Complete with reenactments, etc. Give the tourists a real feel for how things were.

The only thing you'll ever see expanded at the Alamo is the gift shop.

I agree. Expanding the Alamo site would be cool, and might increase the "flow" of tourism throughout the area. Think of Colonial Williamsburg in VA. Acres of real-time actors that result in an "immersive" environment.

And destroy Ripley's and the Wax Museum? Have you no respect?
