SAN ANTONIO — H-E-B has disclosed plans for a $100 million expansion of its headquarters, a move that would double its downtown workforce by 2030 and transform the area just north of the historic King William neighborhood.
The master plan includes a grocery store, to be called Flores Market, at South Flores Street and César E. Chávez Boulevard.

Props to HEB for continuing to invest in SA. In particular, downtown SA

(I think you mean $100 million for the thread title )
I think these latest details will ease people's minds. Seems like they listened to their critics and increased the size of the store as well.

I'm sure some people will be against this because of main street closure but to me, this is overwhelmingly good for the downtown revitalization movement.

They're doubling down on the street closure. The people opposed to closing the street should prepare to get steamrolled by this $100 million project with its 100s of jobs.

I live along South Flores and I greatly oppose the closure of South Main. A whole city block for a bike trail! WOW! There is already a sidewalk for pedestrians along South Flores and plenty of bicyclists riding along South Flores. H.E.B. has sat on their dilapidated properties for years upon years! Build a sky bridge H.E.B.! Problem solved. Take your proposed gas station H.E.B. and shove it!

Has anyone from HEB ever commented on why they would not build a sky bridge instead of closing the street? It does seem like a better way to go.

Opportunity cost. Must give up something to gain something.

How bad do the downtown folks want a HEB downtown is the real question here.

I think this is a good decision overall for them to build a store downtown.

A lot of this is blatant spin, being reported on by folks who have their hand in the cookie jar in one form or another. HEB has a lot of money spread around this city. Lots of takers in many facets of power.

What they're not reporting is that HEB was asked for a minimum 15k sq ft store and they offered a 6k pantry. More so, it was only ready-made, pre-packaged food sourced from Central Market and not anything like a real grocer. It's a higher-end gas station... And HEB still wants that one million dollar incentive for all of their 'trouble.'

They complain endlessly about how they won't make any profit from this venture for years and years. Boofriggityhoo Charles: You've been treating this city as your own personal ATM for ages. Doing something good for the citizens who have supported HEB for many, many years is the least this company can do to foster continued goodwill. What they're proposing now is a copout, no good for the residents who actually live in the area and should not be allowed to go forward.

Those of us who live in this area have the right to ask for this project to be done right. What's on the table now is complete junk...

A culebra meat market #36 would be better for that part of town. You won't see the HEB buddy around there. You can get your fresh meat from the CMM#36.
