Exactly...both too low IMO. I was carrying 1.5M minimum 25+ years ago. The 60K is just frightening. I bet a lot of folks aren't even aware of this. I do a ton of business travel myself...but stay away (whenever I can) from taxi's/Uber etc. I do carry my own insurance that covers me (5 Million) no matter who's vehicle I'm in...have that for my staff as well.

Yes, but the insurance we carry, short of life and health insurance, is to protect our assets in the case we are liable. Some uninsured yahoo can plow into my rental car and, short of what I can get out of a UM policy, I'm probably stuck. And just because a taxi or Uber only carries a specific amount of coverage...it doesn't stop anyone from going after them for more. Frankly, considering Uber's sky high market cap, I'd take my chances with them!

I hear what you are saying, however, and I definitely think $60k is way too low for liability. I urge my kids to carry much higher...to protect their own assets in this ridiculously litigious culture we live in today.

I consider my earning power (and future) earning power as part of my assets (it might be even greater for a 28 year old coming right out of med school, for instance). Are you thinking of this? "Going after them" is a pain, and not easy. I do agree that they seem to be worth a good deal (as of now) ...but I like low risk, high reward. In other words, I stay away from chance like that.

I think we are on the same page here. I know going after someone is a pain, but I've been "gone after" by a lawyer who got injured in an accident that was totally his fault. He looked up the value of my home and went for that. Fortunately my insurance defended me and he only got a fraction of what he sought (didn't deserve a dime), but it taught me a lesson in that I now have an umbrella policy to cover my worth and future earnings.

A PLUP is a great investment for most that have some net worth. A nice Lloyd's policy is even better and customized to fit your needs/situation.

Travelers looking to be picked up from Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) now have the option of using popular ride-sharing services Uber and Lyft. Prior to Monday, when the options officially became available, DFW only allowed companies like Uber and Lyft to drop off travelers.
