Hi guys,

I haven't been to San Antonio since I was a kid but I keep reading from some posters that San Antonio has parts of it that are really scenic and look almost European. What parts? I can only recall parts of the Riverwalk that reminded me of a colonial Spanish village, but are there other parts?

Is San Antonio Spanish as much as New Orleans is French?

Hmmm. I've lived in Europe and my husband is European and I wouldn't call San Antonio European. That said, it's early history (it's 300 years old) means it has some buildings built in similar time frames to many European cities (late 19th Century). So, there are definitely some wonderful historic parts of the city but I can't say it has a European feel.

I can only think of Montreal as the only city in North America that has a European feel.

The closest thing to European in San Antonio is that place called Eilan across I-10 from The Rim. A faux European bubble.

A true European feel yes. Modern Euro feel. I just thought San Antonio had some historical architecture such as New Orleans which made it feel historically colonial European.

European??? Not at all! Not even after few beers!
San Antonio is one of the oldest European settlements in the United States and the influences of its Spanish past are still evident in many San Antonio neighborhoods. You can see some details in architecture, but the city doesn't look or feel European at all. If there was something in the past - it's now long gone.

You mean like Disney World in Orlando is European?

New Orleans, San Francisco, Boston, even NYC have that european feeling not to mention cities of Mexico as Guanajuato, San Miguel de Allende, Zacatecas, Mexico City, that still are located in North America.

Walk around the residential King William District in San Antonio, has 19th century central Germany feel to it.

Aside from NYC and Boston, I don't find the cities you're mentioning to feel European at all. Mexicans cities specially look very exotic to European eyes. They may have a small colonial core, but so does Shanghai and I don't think anyone would say it has an European flavor.
