Greetings everyone,

Moving to SA to work a job at Trinity U. It's just the wife and I, but she's a teacher so a decent school would be nice. We're looking to rent something like a 3/2 1700 sqft house for around $2000 per month. Additionally, would like the commute to be under 30 minutes (the shorter, the better). We probably can't afford something in Alamo Heights, but it seems there were some homes in the $2000 range just north of the Airport - is that a safe area? I'd also be fine north of 1604, but if I remember it would take forever to go that far down 281 to Trinity.

Kirby was recommended to us as well, although I've heard mixed things about that area. Plus, I'm not sure how long the commute would take.

Any advice would appreciated. Hopefully I'm not looking for a unicorn.

I don't understand this part.

There's a few in heights/nearby

Castle Hills
Area around Shavano Park. Really anywhere between 1604, wurzbach, I-10, and 281 is nice.
Maybe Tobin Hill if you can handle living around a bunch of gays.

The area north of the airport isn't bad and neither is the area north of 410.

Wouldn't recommend Kirby or anywhere east of 78209

I understand that he HAS a job in TU, but his wife is a teacher also and would like to live close to a good school where she could find a job. The question is: what level? Elementary? Middle? High?
She needs to apply for a teacher job first, so we don't know what school OP had in mind.

I also agree that Kirby is definitely not a desirable area...
Other suggested areas are good. I would add Terrell Hills, Monte Vista and Brackenridge?

North of the airport is a good area.

People only live in Kirby if they can't afford somewhere else. Since you can afford it, avoid Kirby.

Education is hard. Unless your wife is a teacher of the year where y’all are from, it can be hard to find a teaching position. I know people who never found a teaching position and switched fields; were teachers assistants for a few years before getting a teaching position and people who jump from district to district due to leadership styles. It’s hard to “get into a good school” to teach right away, too.
