I just moved to SA and in the hectic move I misplaced my extra car key for my Toyota Prius. Thankfully I still have one original key, otherwise I would be looking at a mega expense to reprogram the car. Are there any locksmiths around here that have the machine that can program the smart fobs or is paying a local dealer $350 my only option for a new key? I'm originally from NY and we had a FEW locksmiths who could program smart keys for about half of what the dealers charged.

Thanks.

I've only heard of dealers doing it. But I'd love to know if there are any out there too.

Not sure what side of town you're on, but the Las Palmas Key Shop was able to program our 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee and 2007 Toyota Tundra for pretty cheap. They're in the hood, but they did a good job and saved us a good chunk of change.

However, I did purchase non-cut keys for both vehicles through eBay by searching the year, make and model. Found them with no problem. They cut and programmed both keys. $4 to cut, $40 to program each vehicle. They sell the keys their, but you will pay more.

I'd call them first to make sure they can work with your vehicle.

I just want to say that this was one of the most helpful posts in a long time. I did what you suggested and it worked out great. The other locksmiths in San Antonio (I called two of them) quoted me $120 and $125 to program my two blank keys (that I ordered off of the internet). I already had a working key so it was not an emergency but the other locksmiths still went for the rip-off. After that, I called the dealership for my Ford Escape and they quoted me $120 to program cut and program the two keys I purchased (same as the locksmiths so that was crazy).

Access Key. Call Sam the owner and he will help. He has done many many car keys for me. He has all the equipment and his trucks are mobile. 210.543.2241

I just bought a spare for my 08 charger online here:
Car keys - Remote Keyless Entry Fob Replacement Car Fobs

Then I'm going to the dealer to get the key cut and the smart key programmed.

That's great info about the programming shop, thanks! I'll check them out.

Oh thanks for that! I need to replace the rubber pad on one of my 300C keys (looks identical to the Charger key with a trunk button added). $9.99 I'll take all day long.

They ended up cutting and programming both keys for me for the $35 and they were very friendly. I can't recommend them highly enough based on the other rip-off places that I contacted. They are great in my book and the only way I knew about them was from this post.
I'm glad I could help!

I just came from there...

The Mazda dealer wanted $200+ for key so I bought a blank on ebay last year for about $20 but couldn't find a place to program it. Las Palmas did it in 10 min for $35 including cutting it. Highly recommended!

Thanks bsofa04!!
