Are the residential areas around McAllister Park family friendly? i.e. good schools, low crime etc...

I think so! Santa Fe Trail and any of the Oak Hollows are lovely neighborhoods. I believe the zip is 78232, so you can look up homes that way.

Any of the neighborhoods across Jones-Maltsberger (west of the park) are great. North and south (Burning Tree and Blossom Park, respectively) are great as well, but not quite on par with Oak Hollow, Santa Fe Trail, Arbor, etc.

Great,
I'm going to San Antonio tomorrow to look at apartments to move to the following week and that's exactly the area that I'm looking at.
It's good to see that houses are cheap, because it's likely that in a year we'll be trying to buy a house.

McAllister Park Area
We live in the Oak Hollow area directly across from McCallister park. We love it! It is very safe and quiet, people keep up their homes well, and it is incredibly convenient. You can get to 281, 1604, Wurzbach Parkway, etc. very easily. Also, you can be at the airport in less that 10 minutes, and although we can hear airplanes, they are not loud and we are not in the flightpath like some very expensive neighborhoods are. There is a 4 bedroom house on our street for sale right now, with an asking price of $225,000, I believe. Also, if you have a family we have much bigger lots than you can find in newer neighborhoods, with big trees, too.
