We are looking to buy a home that is approx. 20 yrs old and was built by Gemcraft. Anyone remember this builder? Anybody own one of these homes? I think they were big in the mid-80's but I don't know if they were bought out or just left the city.

Gemcraft built some of the homes in Westcreek (up in the much older sections just as you come off of 1604 and the clocktower on Military Drive).
They seem to be holding up well and I have not heard complaints. I think they are very similar in quality to the Pulte homes of that time.

I suppose the neighborhood would tell the story...where are you looking???

The Westcreek village name is Royal Oaks. The area is to the right (heading West down Military Drive West at first and second STOP signs.

They were pretty big in the mid 1980's, but they bankrupted by the end of the decade. Construction quality was pretty good, but the homes were on the plain side. About the only real problem area I can recall were the windows, which at this point most people have probably replaced anyways. They tended to fog up, and were not sound proof by any stretch of the imagination.

I just recently bought my first house,t is a 1,500 sq.foot Gemcraft built in 1985 in Village Northwest of Tezel. It has the Gemcraft emblem by the front door. These houses came with a 10 year warranty when new.My neighborhood is well kept.Gemcraft seems to be a good builder. It does have some unique features.Another good sign about the builder, they didn't knock all the trees down like most new developers.I have seven large oak trees, something you won't find with some of the new homes.I could have bought a new house, but gotta have my trees.

Default Gemcraft homes

Where are you looking? My father actually founded Gemcraft with his brother when I was a baby. He is currently a builder in Houston, operating independent of his brother now. Let me know where you are looking and I'll see if I can help.

Would he happen to have the floorplan brochures for the model homes built in the early 1980's in NW S.A?

I own a Gemcraft Home in San Antonio.(Pecan Valley Estates). Nothing but praise for this neighborhood. I'm looking for other neighborhoods in San Antonio with Gemcraft homes. Any help is appreciated.

Default construction features in the late 80's

I am in the process of buying a Gemcraft home. These comments are all really helpful. I am trying to find out if vinyl siding was originally installed in the Gemcraft homes of the late 80's. This house has no visible soffit vents and I'm wondering if the siding was a retrofit and they just covered over the soffit vents. Sorry to hear that Gemcraft is no more. They built a good house.
