I would try something like Career Point Institute or SA College of Medical and Dental Assistants.

The administrative side of things is much more of a "professional" school type of thing, a la Career Point, as mentioned before. If you're looking for something like that where you'll have a little more clout then try Nursing.

Yeah...this isn't a BA degree. One of the community colleges might offer a certification program. Try the Alamo Colleges website.

You can try doing a search for Bachelor's Degree in Health Care Management or Healthcare Administration so you can advance to a Medical Office Manager position once you have the Medical Admin. Support under your belt. Check into the Alamo Colleges for 2+2 programs to help you lower the cost of your bachelor's degree. Be very careful with Career Point (for profit schools) that may land you in loads of debt after graduation. If a Associate's degree in Medical Admin. Assistant is your goal, then look into St. Philip's College. If you decide in the future for a bachelor's, then a BAAS degree will help you finish in a quicker amount of time because of the vocational credits. Good luck!

Just speaking from experience (I know someone who works there). A lot of the professional schools have moved towards accreditation which is great news. But still, everyone should still be careful when researching schools that should be one of the first questions asked when considering professional schools (and online ones). I know Career Point is one that is accredited now.

Contact School of Health Professionals (they offer several BA programs) at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, in the South Texas Medical Center:

St. Philip's offers an associate degree in medical admin. assist. You might as well just get the health information technology associate's degree for medical billing instead for better advancement. You will always have a career in the medical field. The medical admin. assist. degree does not teach you about medical billing. Most employers in the medical field want someone in the front office that knows how to do medical billing.
