And one of the students, an 8-year-old boy, has since died. Just terrible. I can't imagine what those kids went through.

From the article above:
Quote:
Anderson signed in at the front office when he entered the school, according to Maass. He said he believed Anderson was known to the front office.

The front desk personnel failed by letting him into the school. They should have called her into the office, telling her she had a visitor. So what if they recognized him; it was school hours and he didn't belong on the premises beyond the office.

Example:
All of the school doors are locked at my grandson's school except the main entrance which leads to the office. One day I was dropping off an important item for him during school hours. When I went to the office, where everyone knows who I am, I asked if I should bring the item to his classroom and they said no, that someone from the office will bring it to him. I was pleased with that response.

That's how all schools should conduct business. Besides school personnel, if you are not a volunteer who has had a background check you have no business in the school during school hours. Plain and simple!!!

My condolences to the family of the deceased boy. My heart also goes out to all of the children who had to witness such a horrible act.

Finally, for anyone who has domestic violence issues, please notify someone at work who controls entry into your workplace to help prevent events such as this.

Good point. That employee who waved Anderson through, after having him sign in, must be feeling awful now.

"The silent video, taken from inside the office, shows Anderson walk toward an entrance next to the main office door that would have opened directly into the hallway. Unable to enter that way, he instead walks through the unlocked door to the front desk, where he speaks to employees and casually writes his name on a sign-in sheet. No weapon is visible in the video."

The shooter was my coworkers neighbor. She knew both of them very well.
