My husband and I found a place to rent, the floors are dirty, walls are VERY dirty, and there was a broken window. We talked to the owner (who is renting the place out) he told us that he would have it clean when we moved in, well still not clean and then said that we could clean it. It was BAD! bathtub had dirt that was almost stuck on from the previous renters, hair all over the place, and then the landlord "painted" the front porch and put the paint brush in the toilet, after I cleaned the bathroom and scrubbed everything!
Anyways, the landlord told us since he wasn't sure if he would get to it, for us to paint and clean. We asked him about the cost of the supplies being taken off our rent and they agreed. So my question is, since our rent is already being prorated, would it be okay to deduct the cost of the supplies that we had to purchase to clean and paint.
