Question for you guys.

I have an EDCO trash removal account. I pay $42 for the pleasure. However sometimes I am not home on the days they come or like yesterday somebody put my trashcan back INSIDE my yard with the trash still in it. Why ? I have no idea.

Anyway tonight I saw an open dumpster at a mall and I tossed the bag in there....just paper and food stuff because I don't want to wait another week to throw it out. Is that illegal or are there better places to do it besides a mall ? I am aware of the term "dumping" but doesn't that relate to recyclables and other difficult to dispose of materials ?

As I was leaving the mall a cop car came in the entrance next to me. I thought for a second that I was spotted.

Can anyone fill me in please.

Thanks

Look for smaller businesses nearby that are closed during the weekends. They usually have open dumpsters behind them.

Wow I had no idea it was such a big deal. I've never dealt with this issue back EAST.

I will definitely not do it again....and heed the warning.

How much is the fine for something like this ?

By the way this privatization of trash pick up is a F'ing scam. That's what taxes are for !

Let's put it this way, if someone started filling up your trash cans with their trash, would you be happy with it?

By the way, this isn't just a California thing. It's illegal to do this in New York too, as well as most other cities and states.

For example, here's the NYC ordinance:

Improper Disposal
A person may not use another person’s receptacles without permission, or place
his/her refuse in front of a premises other than the building in which he/she
resides or works.

§16-120(a) FINE: $100 - $300

No of course not. Like I said I already pay for the service but for some reason the pick up situation is hit or miss with EDCO. I am not a criminal. I just want to throw out my trash.

Otherwise if I won't be home I put it in the dumpster at the parking lot I PAY FOR at the border. Maybe I should just stick with that plan.

Wasn't aware of NYC trash laws. The entire city has trash bags sitting out on the curb. If you leave trash in a bag next to it you are being more courteous than other people who throw loose trash around it. Also the city assumes responsibility for it as they well should.

Maybe you should phone EDCO and ask them what's up with this, since after all you are paying them for a service they apparently aren't furnishing.

I put my trash in someone else's black trash bin every week. Since the property manager refuses to get a trash bin for me, I have no choice. So every Tuesday night, I take all of my trash bags that I throw on the ground by the laundry room, out to the curb and put in whatever black bin has room.

Relax -- people are just pulling your leg. Yes, it is illegal. No, you won't be suffering any consequences for simply tossing a small amount of trash in a dumpster.
