Hi, I am moving to SD in June and thinking to rent an apartment around Lake Murray and Grossmont shopping center. Just want to see if the area is safe and quiet. I will be working during weekdays and still want to have fun in the weekend. Is it relatively close to entertainment places?
Any suggestions about apartments will be appreciated. Thanks.

Yes it's nice, just be picky about the particular building you choose as there has been a decline in the quality of renters in this area in the last few years. There is not much entertainment around there but you are only 10-15 minutes from downtown, or you can take the trolley.

The residential areas are generally safe and quiet, but Sassberto makes an important point: there has been a perceptible decline in the quality of renters over the past few years and some apartment complexes may be less desirable than others.

You should be aware that Grossmont Center is a major retail complex with a hospital sandwiched into a relatively small parcel of land. Both Grossmont Center Drive and Jackson Drive (south of Fletcher Parkway) can become quite congested during rush-hour and on Saturday afternoons.

Aside from a movie theater and a few restaurants in Grossmont Center, I cannot think of much in the way of entertainment. You do have freeway and trolley access to other destinations.

The best thing Lake Murray has going for it is recreational opportunities around the lake itself and in nearby Mission Trails Park.

Yes I feel Lake Murray is safe, it's a nice area, very quiet and peaceful.

I have lived in the area for many years. The schools are really good and the people are nice. I think it is pretty safe around here....I see lots of people out walking and jogging even at night. We have a neighborhood watch group that doesn't seem to have much to watch. A few homes near me are rented but most our occupied by long time home owners.

What kind of entertainment are you looking for? I can't imagine that there is much that can't be driven to in 15 minutes or less.
