I am being confronted with a major dilemma. Currently I have a window ac that I screwed into the 2x4 in the bottom of the window sill and have sitting out of my current window. I have a cut piece of fiberglass above the ac and the slider window is closed so the whole thing is snug and secure and it looks almost normal.

I plan on installing vinyl windows in my condo. People have told me that window ac units shouldn't be rested on the vinyl window because the windows aren't able to support the weight.

I have a couple of choices:
1. Get a portable AC unit, though I've read they don't work very well. I need to cool my main room/kitchen (approx. 550 sf).

2. Keep my window with the ac already installed and get vinyl windows for the remaining 4 windows. yes this will look kind of ghetto, but I need ac.

Any thoughts or suggestions?
