We are currently living in the Netherlands and are likely to move to the Bay Area by the end of this year. My son (almost 5) is currently going to a private international school. He has a speech and language delay and gets therapy at school and has a shadow (assistant)part of the time.
We are looking at houses in Marin county (Mill valley, triburon). How is the special Ed dept? Can we go with the public school or should we be looking at a private school?
thanks!
Charlot

In my experience, most private schools aren't equipped to deal with a special needs child. Most private schools test youngsters so they can keep the highest achievers.

Public schools are obligated to provide services but some are better than others. The question is probably: Which public school do I buy into (as in a home) as they will provide excellent services for my child.

Marin County probably has great schools. Just make sure you get an IEP (I worked with developmentally delayed children) and stick up for your kids when the admins try to do them wrong. I personally attended a private school and the size of the special ed class was when i went there was 11:600 students. Now there are like 55:600 students.
