D.C.= I know they got one I just can't think of it right now.

New Orleans= Cajun/Creol

Baltimore= Crab Cakes

Seattle= Coffee

Texas cities= Texmex/and or barbecue

LA= Must have one, but just don't know it

Some places share foods but with their own twist. SF is known for the Clam Chowder in Sourdough bowls. Actually, Sourdough is a SF original.

LA is known for what's called California cuisine (along with Berkeley). The California Roll for sushi I believe was invented in LA.

Fortune Cookies (invented in SF) and Dim Sum (sells dim sum in the evenings, unheard of in the most Chinese communities of LA) for us Chinese folks. I am not sure, but I would like to think so.

LA, maybe Mexican food?

I cosign this. Cioppino, sourdough, cornmeal crust pizza, clam chowder in sourdough bread bowls, crab louie, its-its, and the SF Mission-style burrito which is what most everyone knows as a "super burrito" are all SF creations.

I think the biggies are Sourdough and Dungeness Crab. SF is certainly famous for Chinese Food but I can't think of a Chinese dish or style that's particular to SF. It would rock if there were to be a certain type of dim-sum that SF is famous for.

LA...hmm. They're emerging-ly famous for Korean food. I've seen "LA Kalbi" advertised a few times! And tart fro-yo. Not sure what they're traditionally famous for, though there must be something.

I think the way of cooking Chinese food may be a SF, or at least bay area thing. The frequent use of oyster sauce comes to mind. Also, drief-fried ribs. those are harder to find in SD but are ubiquitous in Chinese places around the bay area.

Dungeness crab for sure although SF competes with Seattle for being known for them.
