I've been getting unemployment benefits here in California for as far back as the job I lost in August.

This week, I got a check for only one week's worth instead of two. Also got a letter scheduling one of those phone interviews for this coming Monday. Says they're going to ask if I'm likely to turn down work because of personal commitments.

The answer to that is definitely a no. I want to be as prepared as possible, though, for this interview.

So I'm wondering why they would suddenly decide to ask me this stuff.

Any theories?

They have been doing odd things in the last years.

Once they kept returning my claim telling me to fill it out completely. I have a copier and copy them before I mail them. Two months of non payments I finally get someone on the phone. She said that I was claiming to have worked and not gave the $ amount. I informed her I had my copies in front of me and that was untrue. She then quietly said "could you tell me you made a mistake". I understood, said I made a mistake. She told me the check would be in the mail.
