SUV found torched on Portola Valley road

An SUV was doused with gasoline and set ablaze Tuesday night in Portola Valley, the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office reported
Deputy Stephen Duvall found the smoking 2006 Dodge Durango on the shoulder of Alpine Road, just east of Arastradero Road, at 11:40 p.m., according to sheriff's office spokesman Lt. Ray Lunny.
A "thick plume" of smoke was spewing from the interior of the SUV, Lunny said. Unsure whether anyone was inside the vehicle and if hazardous materials were involved, authorities closed Alpine between Arastradero and Westridge roads.
A hazmat team investigated the smoldering wreck and by 2:20 a.m., authorities determined the fire had been set intentionally and gasoline used as an accelerant. The SUV was unoccupied.
Authorities have not been able to contact the registered owners of the Durango, Lunny said.
Duvall, who tried to look inside the SUV when he found it, was taken to San Mateo County General Hospital for a medical evaluation and later released, according to Lunny.

I'd bet on either jilted lover, or mishievous hippie as the culprit here.

That's a common way to get rid of any evidence. With the sophisticated technology we have today, it doesn't work as well as the perpetrator thinks!
