This may seem like a lazy question but I have scoured several malls and clothing stores to find shirts that fit well and feel good. However, I find it pretty difficult to find shirts that fit well. I tried online stores but when the product arrives at home I am usually disappointed. I am not a very picky dresser but I do have a few shirts that I like but finding similar ones seems to be very difficult. I was wondering if there is a local tailor or clothing store that one would recommend. If someone has any good recommendations for an online store that would be great too?

You can buy a shirt that's got the overall look and give you want and bring it for alterations. Generally speaking, go bigger than smaller and the can trim it to your body/look you want. Alterations sometimes are done by dry cleaners. All will accept them though. So you have three clues:

1. Ask, do they do it there or send it out. Sending out hem-ups is no problem, but sending out things for true fit should be done by the person you're interacting with.

2. Does it make sense. Look at the shop. Do they have alteration jobs or is everything dry cleaning. Possibly ask to see some of the jobs they've just finished or if they have anything similar. If it's all pant hem-up(easy), that might not be your person. If they can show where they've hemmed up, adjusted waist, adjusted legs....they can likely pull it off. Shirts are different for each person. You need someone with the skill and who actually cares enough to give you quality work for a good fit.

3. Does it make sense II. If they say they do all their own alterations, but all they have is a sole machine in the shop, they're not who you want. Different machines can do different things, and yes some can be adjusted to do all, but you really want specialized machines if you're paying for professional alterations.

Once you're settled on someone, give them a shirt and see how they do. If you like it, then give them more.
