There are also both commuting vans and private groups of people that travel Abq to LA. I used to work for CIC-5 then CCN-5 about a decade ago. Plenty of people that commute. The town used to shut down around 8pm, I am not that much of a night owl but if you want to be out much later than that you have to go off the hill.
After spending several weeks looking at real estate in Los Alamos, White Rock and Santa Fe, I decided I like ABQ infinitly more than any of those places.
So, I ride a van. Works out great and the monthly cost is less than 3 round trips up there in my pov.

Thx
Buy an iPad/Kindle Fire/Another type of tablet. Load it up with ted talks, books, movies, tv shows, and podcasts and try to enjoy your time on the van.
Finding _anything_ less than $200k that involves a livable structure is uncommon, but possible. I showed four listings on Trulia < $200k, and most were for condos. There was one very reasonably priced nice-looking SFH in that price range. Probably has foundation issues or something.
We've pretty well established that, yes, it's expensive there, and why.
Espanola has some nice houses for sale. My wife and the kids are actually considering on a move there. I would like to live in LA myself for my job, but I can not afford it at the current time.
Espanola has everything you can possibly need. I certainly don't believe all the rumors.
Espanola is actually a fine city, after meeting with realtors and such we've pretty much settled on Chacoma Vista Estates off of North McCurdy, which is a beautiful subdivision in a bumpy part of town. But that is alright, I agree with ABQ Convict, Espanola is a city with New Mexican culture and just met qualifications I was looking for. I mean the price of the two story home we were looking at was so cheap, I couldn't say no.
Growing up in Northeast Albuquerque as a hispanic was awkward in the 80s because there was a lack of diversity.
My parents are from Espanola, but it's not my cuppa tea.
I just plain love the ABQ area and can't see living anywhere else in NM.
