If you have a pool and kids, PLEASE spend the money and put up a Baby Barrier. One death due to drowning is one death too much.

Summer is coming quick..

barriers are good.

but there is no substitute for parental supervision. it only takes a couple minutes, like running for a beer and making a phone call.

when we had our house on the rental market we put alarms on the doors as required by code, every time we would come down the batteries were removed.

Even though you have that, never feel complacent. You always have to keep an eye on them, till they move out and go to college!

My daughter is at John Cabbot University in Rome. I never expected college to be so far away.

in the wise words of my sister-in-law's stepdad ...

We do everything to create a protected environment for our children, we love them and give them the best education possible, keep them safe and love them unconditionally then they become teenagers and repay us by taking a bunch of acid and going for a joyride on the hood of some idiot's car.

That is tragic, I'm so sorry. I'm sure your sister will forever be haunted by that.

Florida is the #1 state for children drowning. Unfortunately, when you have a pool put in, you have an option of baby barrier or alarm. The alarms are so loud that most people end up having them disarmed and are, therefore, useless. You should always choose a barrier and make sure it is operating properly at all times, and lock it after every use.

I would like to change that to say....IF YOU HAVE A POOL, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER YOU HAVE CHILDREN OR NOT, PLEASE INSTALL A BABY BARRIER. PERIOD.
