I have 3 beautiful owls in my yard. They are amazing to watch! I took some pix a few weeks ago, thought you might like to see them I haven't seen them in a while but I just saw then swoop through the trees and that reminded me...

Aww, thanks for posting those! Owls are such fascinating creatures. I don't see/hear them that often in my neighborhood, but I had all kinds of different owls when I lived in the country in Dade City.

I've had owls in my backyard trees 'hooting' at 3 AM I don't know if they are signaling other owls that there is water available to drink or they found mice running around.

Those are SO COOL!!!!! I love they almost blend in perfectly with the trees. You are lucky to have them so close to you like that!

Anyone know what kind of owl they are?

I am so jealous! I have been trying to spot them for three years! I hear them from time to time and I even tried downloading owl calls on my iPhone so I could try to encourage them to come around! I know...I'm weird that way.

Awesome pictures! We had a pair of them late last summer, really hoping they come back this year!

I think it is the Barred Owl. It hoots like "who cooks for you"..."who, who, who cooks for you".

Makes sense...although I haven't seen them, I've matched the call I've heard to the recording for a Barred Owl.

Yes, they are Barred Owls and they are pretty big!! They are really well camouflaged but if I walk into the area they hang out in they start swooping to higher/further branches. they don't seem too shy but if I am in their area they keep an eye on me! I've seen them from my window and pool cage, once I saw one super close in a tree branch near the pool cage. I love hearing them "whooo" too
