Home - Rising Seas

Quite a detailed and troubling article. Mentions specific areas in Florida with examples of changes, things being done to mitigate, and future predictions. (Longboat Key is mentioned in the article).

Seas have been evolving since earth came into being, right? Maybe California will fall off into the Pacific...I hope.

We also still do stupid things, such as building on faultlines, on barrier islands continuously...

And then we have very stupid cities like New Orleans which is already. way below sea level already, and then we wonder about the idiots dealing with floods.

We also have mega-fools who continue to build stick houses in tornado alley, with no saferooms or storm shelters.

Go figure, we're really bright, eh?

"Now NOAA reports sea levels are rising along parts of the Florida coast by more than a third of an inch every year."

Terrifying. That means that by 2020 the sea level will have risen as much as 3 whole inches. Don't know about you folks, but I am investing in kayaks. The mode of transportation of the future!

Why do you hope for such a disaster?

The 1/3" increase must have started this week. I haven't seen any changes in the 30 years I've been visiting beaches from Bradenton Beach to Venice Beach
