BB disputes developer’s residential parking lots

For full article:

https://www.islander.org/2024/02/bb-...-parking-lots/

Bradenton Beach officials are taking a stand on procedure, telling a developer to back up and park his ideas.

In a Feb. 15 city commission meeting, officials raised concerns over the emergence of paid parking operations in the city’s historic district that lack permitting, placing developer Shawn Kaleta’s actions under a magnifying glass.

Building official Darin Cushing said the city sent notices of violation to Kaleta for allegedly orchestrating the unauthorized establishment of paid parking lots in various areas zoned for residential use.

The lots in question include: 102 Third St. N., 207 Church Ave. and 206 Bay Drive S.

“My thought is they are not even zoned for it,” Mayor John Chappie said. “As much as we want parking lots, we’ve got to follow the rules. I don’t think we have much choice but to have a stop and desist. It’s not legal according to our rules and regulations.”

Chappie said it’s a code enforcement issue.

A Charlotte County deputy is reunited with a 6-month-old baby after saving her life.

Kayleigh Foley was driving with her two daughters to meet family members for dinner.

Her 3-year-old daughter and her 6-month-old baby were in their car seats in the vehicle.

"I remember looking to my left and seeing a bike and a bright light and then the impact. My ear was ringing and everything went off, like the airbags, and I could hear my 3-year-old screaming in the back," said Kayleigh Foley.

The car crash happened around 7:30 p.m. on February 8.

Charlotte County Deputy Sgt. Dave Musgrove was traveling on South McCall Road near Spinnaker Boulevard in Englewood. His dash camera caught a speeding motorcyclist who was traveling about 100 mph. Seconds later, the motorcyclist crashed into Kayleigh's car. He died at the scene.

Sgt. Musgrove pulled over and rescued Kayleigh's two children from the vehicle. The 6-month-old baby did not have a pulse and was unresponsive. Sgt. Musgrove performed CPR until EMS arrived.

Venice man urges others to understand their health after life-threatening aneurysm (Video)

For full article & video:

https://www.newsbreak.com/venice-fl/...ening-aneurysm

When he heard he had a clean bill of health, Louis D’Amico tended to believe his doctors and not investigate his test results.

Four years ago, Louis had a stent placed in his abdomen to control two aortic aneurysms. He said he would go in for an annual CAT scan. After his March 2023 scan, the Venice resident said his doctor told him he was fine. But he said there was a line in his test results he didn’t read — there was leakage, causing his aneurysms to grow. He said his doctor never said anything.

“You don’t know anything about this,” Louis said. “There’s no pain, there’s no nothing. You just wander around, and then, one day, you wake up gone.”

It wasn’t until a different doctor visit months later that Louis realized the diagnosis and was referred to Tampa General Hospital and Dr. Dean Arnaoutakis.

“The estimated risk of that rupturing or popping, I would say, is at least 25 to 35 percent risk per year,” said Dr. Arnaoutakis. “If there were to have happened, it’s almost always a life-ending event.”

Now, Louis and his wife Denise are urging anyone and everyone to take control of their health by asking questions and understanding their tests.

“You should request every single test that anyone ever takes of you,” said Denise. “Bring it home, read it, understand it.”

Thankfully, Louis was referred to a place and person that could help him — Dr. Arnaoutakis is a USF Associate Professor of Surgery at TGH’s Heart & Vascular Institute and the Director of the Aortic Disease Program at TGH.
