Do the planes fly in really low and how bad is the volume and noise level? Also, do you feel removed from all the action here?

I live in Whitfield Estates (4 years now) and me and hubby love it here. There are only a few planes per day, most of the time I am completely unaware of them. People have lived in this neighborhoods for decades, it's a great place to live. Yes, they fly in low (right over my house! lol!) but they are over in 3 seconds. (we are on the bay side of Whitfield)

Not only do we NOT feel "removed from the action", it is actually one of the best places to live, as it is equi-distant to either Bradenton or Sarasota downtowns (5.5 miles) University Parkway corridors, and easy access to all the beaches. Not sure why you ask that? Far from it. We are literally about 7 minutes from downtown, maybe 15 min. to Lido Beach. Honestly, I feel lucky to have found a home I love here. We also have the nicest neighbors of anywhere we have ever lived.

Hope this answers your question. By the way, I don't know a SINGLE person living in this area who is bothered by the airport in any way. I would much rather deal with the fleeting noise of a few planes than ongoing noise issues with problem neighbors.

Alot has been done to reduce noise at the airport. Many years ago there was a program to buy out any home owner who was annoyed by the noise. Remaining owners had the option of having noise abatement material added to their home. A high berm was installed along the Trail to shield noise. Landing patterns weren't much of a concern but the north take off pattern was changed to a convoluted pattern to avoid populated areas over Longboat Key. There are no flights after 11:00 pm [I remember really cheap flights at midnight] There is a restriction of the use of power units at night.
Now if you really want to here 'airport noise', spend some time on an aircraft carrier. If your quarters or work area are forward, you get to hear engines at 100% and a catapult. If aft, you get to hear planes landing on the 'roof', engines at 100% when they grab a wire.

Our place is in West Bradenton so I often see planes coming in for landings at SRQ. I love watching them, especially at night around the holidays. I think of all the happy people from up North coming in to spend Christmas in warm, sunny FL.
