My law firm wants me to join a country club so I can host clients, etc from time to time, and they'll reimburse me up to $4500 if I join one. I'm 28 and my wife is 23, and our combined income is under $100k. If I join a country club, I want it to be something we could enjoy ourselves, and meet new friends (i.e., we don't want to be the youngest and poorest ones there).

Do any of you know whether there any country clubs in Savannah or the surrounding areas that are popular among the younger crowd, have a less stodgy, more fun kind of atmosphere, and would cost under $4500 to join?

Thanks,

Harvey

Your best bet would be to ask your company which one they prefer. I doubt if they would approve of one that is geared to the younger set. The older client would feel out of place and uncomfortable.

I got to thinking about your request and I confess that I don't even know if Savannah has what you would call, a typical country club. I have lived here for more decades than I care to admit and I still don't know. A couple of the private golf clubs might be considered as they also have meeting rooms, etc.

I was also wracking my brain about country clubs around here. There's the Savannah Golf Club, the Yacht Club, and the Gun Club. Only one of those has anything to do with golf, but they're all places where established Savannahians socialize. I think you have to be invited to join and/or they are expensive. As for snootiness, you'll find that anywhere. In general, these clubs have a fair contingent of good old boys and their female counterparts as well as a number of interesting blue-bloods in the mix.

The Wilmington Island Golf Club, Henderson Golf Club, and the Southbridge Golf Clubs would also be worth looking into. You'd probably meet less snooty young people at Southbridge and probably at Henderson, too.

Good luck.

I don't know the answer to your question, but usually if it isn't an old guard club it probably won't have a suitable set up for entertaining clients. We used to belong to a club (not in GA) suited to young families, but the restaurant was uneven and unreliable. We stopped going because we aren't very golfy and we couldn't use the restaurant for entertaining.

You have to have several members recommend you for the yaght club and dues are very high . Plus it's a restricted club
No blacks no Jews etc...
Although there are no real country clubs here other than the landings
The Wilmington island Club is as close as you will get
But the club closes way to early

Seven years have passed and I was wondering if this OP ever made partner in his law firm and is now a member of one of the more "snooty clubs" in Savannah. Probably not. Quality of his OP and the premise of his question wasn't well thought out IMHO.

The most pertinent part of the thread, IMO was when Padgett2 pointed out that the club/venue was intended to make the client comfortable, not for the OP to have fun. If it was just to have fun, I doubt his firm would subsidize his membership.
