My husband and I want to take up boating and have no idea where to start. He'd like to learn where and how to fish the area, ocean and river, as well as learn where to take boating classes so we don't hurt ourselves or anyone else.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Have you thought about taking a charter boat fishing trip? There are several listed in the Phone book... The one that comes to mind is Captain Judy's. Then when you are on board, there will be time to ask an expert on the best way to get what you want. There's a lot to be learned about tides, phase of the moon, etc.

You do mean salt water fishing, don't you?

Default salt water versus fresh water

Padgett, that's a great idea! maybe i'll have him wait until I get down there on one of my visits and we can do it together.

I know he wants to know about the rivers and the ocean.. plus we need to take boating classes.

Default Found it!

I should've done my own research before asking, but I see from the views to this post people might want this information, so here's what I found so far:

Let me give you your first warning. Just because you can get to a place at high tide, does not mean that you can find your way out as the tide gets low. The Coast Guard spends a lot of time hunting for people that got stuck up in the marsh when the tide changed and they got lost. They are usually strangers to the area.

my husband works with a man in Savannah who's had that experience and shared his tale of woe. He was very fortunate to time his exit at the next window of opportunity!
