If you break a bulb and the socket is still stuck. Remove the power to the socket (via breaker, confirm with voltmeter).

Cut a potato in half and push the flat end of one potato half into the broken socket. Twist and remove.

I swipe the bulb base with some plain parrafin before screwing bulb into the lamp.

Years ago, we just wiped our finger alongside our nose, then wiped that on the base of the bulb.

Federal law has scheduled incandescent light bulbs to be phased out by 2014. IKEA has already stopped selling them. Its a waste of money at this point.

I think that the law actually set efficiency requirements that will be phased in by 2014 and they seem to have a fairly limited scope.

You will still be able to get halogens, FWIW.

The rest of the planet is set for phaseout by 2012. GE closed its plant in late 2010. Maybe China will make us some more.

Yessir..... can't stand the light those CFL thingies put out. I like a warm light, not hospital sterile light.

Did you know that one can get 'warm' light CFLs? There's a great difference from the cool lights.
Personally, I like the cool lights for my project lamp; they seem to provide clearer or sharper visibility of my handwork.
