This has to do with the replacement batteries on my home cordless phones.

I had to replace the batteries in some of the handsets, and an exact replacement wasn't available. Instead, the battery sold as the replacement for my OEM batteries was a NiMH to replace the NiCD that came with the phones.

My question is this: Is there any danger in using a different type of battery with the original handset and charger base?

Thanks.

Yes, to some degree jack. Charging circuits in any device used to charge nicad or Nickel Cadium (ni-cd) batteries by design are NOT safe to charge nickel metal hydride batteries (NI-MH) batteries. Do they work? Yes, to some degree but bursting due to overheating could occur if overcharged. I would suggest some newer phones already designed with replaceable NI-MH batteries or the newer tech now is Lithium Ion batteries (LI-ION) which have little wasted heat during recharge cycles and less time required and higher mili-amp per hour ratings and no memory effect that nicad batteries have. Hope this helps.
