I discovered recently that I could use AirPods to listen to my tv while streaming a golf tournament. This got me thinking about back about ten or fifteen years when the tablets and cell phones really took off.
Do you recall the interest in “App” development? I think the popular phrase at the time was “There’s an app for that.”
So, we may now be at a point where we might wonder, what will be the next step? The following have already been introduced, but may be at the point where they really take off:
-Virtual reality?
-Wearables?
-Quantum computing?
-AI?
-Blockchain and digital currencies?
-Medical tech?
-Something else?
Personally, I think blockchain and digital currencies will become adapted by the majority of industries and people within the next ten years or so.
I sometimes have begun to feel a bit lost in all the advances, but I do look forward to new and exciting tech.

Neural Implants. Not a good thing, per se. But a thing.
Allow direct brain-to-equipment or brain-to-brain communication.

I saw a news segment about this, I believe. They were working on the development of a device that will help people with prosthetics, in a sense, feel. Fascinating.
I recall folks bugging out about this idea some years ago. The image of a UPC code tattooed on skin made people think of the so-called “mark of the beast” in Biblical or mystic associations. It also brings up some serious privacy issues, I would think.
But I think you are right. Facial recognition, thumbprints, eye scans; seems likely to be ubiquitous soon, if it isn't already.
Both are inked, and both have already started being implemented. The division between the real world and the online world will keep narrowing (which has been happening for the last decade anyway), with more hybrid use of a mixture of both

Yeah, I can see that “exploding” in the next few years or more. An alternate environment to explore, possibly as another self, at least to some degree. I wonder if the former fb will be the primary player or facilitator. It seems the big tech companies who have snapped up video gaming platforms have a head start in this field.

As long as it isn’t soylent green!
