So, I am trying to get quotes on new health insurance for myself. I am married with a small child. According to Lifewise, my child is ineligible for health insurance because of Obama's new law. Not that his health care bill directly cancels out my child's ability to get insurance, but rather it allows insurance companies to take advantage of loop holes. Sure they can't deny coverage for pre-existing conditions, but they can deny just cause.

I don't get it and I am paying out of pocket for my insurance. Any insurance ppl up in here?

Regence Blue Cross has made a similar maneuver. They pretty much have to in order to survive. These are some of those "unintended consequences" nobody thinks of when they pass a law like this.

My sister and step-father are insurance agents. They told me that just a couple weeks ago that all insurance companies were not going to enroll any more children onto insurance policies because of the Healthcare laws. This is for child-only policy, I didn't ask about family type. They stopped on Dec. 15 and are not going to write up new enrollments for children until 2013 or so. Xanathos is right, it's an "unintended" consequence.

I work for an HMO and we are swamped with new enrollees of all ages. Businesses have a lot of incentive now to cover employees and we are feeling it. We're super short on doctors all the way up to call center reps. Hiring like crazy. In the end, we're looking at a good financial situation, also due to federal Medicare preventive-visit incentives.

I agree!!! It is poorly thought out. They should have an enrollment period for adding children to the policy, like say the month of March. Once enrollment period it gone, only a major change in status like divorce, job loss or similar will allow any change to the enrollment.

The same is followed by all employer issued insurance.
