Hi, we r moving to WA because of my husband's job from NJ, he is going to work in bellevue so we want to find a suburb to live ,we have a kid who has to start school next year so with that in mind we have to find a place with good school district and nice parks and less commute time. we came for a visit during the summer last year, wa is so beautiful i liked it so much, but every one is saying it always rains here that scares me a bit . we contacted a real-estate agent and he suggested that maple valley is good place to live and a good school district . if u guys could give me some insight about this it would be of great help for us to make a decision . Thank you

Yes, I consider Washington to be a beautiful place and hope that you will enjoy it as much as I do. The cloudy weather does settle in for most of the winter, today is nice but it is supposed to turn gray again later on this week. You can count on mid-October to mid-March being very gray, partially gray from mid-March to 5th or 6th of July, and then sunny from 5th of July to mid-October.

I can't say for sure what the best place is for you to live, that depends a lot on personal preference. There is a place called Issaquah Highlands that has a lot of the things that you like, but I find it too crowded and built up for my preference. Maple Valley will be a tough commute to Bellevue.

If you're looking for a short commute, you may want to consider living in Bellevue, or perhaps Kirkland, Redmond, or Issaquah at the longest. Anywhere else will involve a longer commute - just depends on how long you want.

I live in the Issaquah Highlands and I love it. There's a brand new elementary school up here, and they're building a ton of shopping up here.

I lived in Clifton, NJ for a year back in the 90s, so I've lived in both places.

V. =)

Maple Valley is not that close to Bellevue, it wouldn't be an easy commute...
I'm a native of central NJ, so I don't know quite how to compare NJ places to WA places, but the worst in the Seattle area is far nicer than the worst in NJ. Are you looking for an Upper Montclair kinda place or a Camden kinda place or in between?
I live just outside of Renton, which doesn't have the prestige of Bellevue, but has some great schools ( not the district as a whole) lower housing costs, and good pizza.

Angelo's on NE 4th Street is my fave. I also like Armando's in downtown Renton, but it's a little pricey. Vince's isn't too bad either.

Hahahaha!!! So true so true!!! As a former New Yorker (yes, Manhattan), I have to say you are SO right! There's NOTHING here that even slightly resembles "the worst" of NJ, or of NY for that matter. Therefore, it's so relaxing here!

I would look at Snoqualmie Ridge or North Bend before Maple Valley.

You should be able to find a 2 bdrm apt for rent for 1400 or under, even in Bellevue or Issaquah, but a 350-400k house will be harder to find. Impossible in Bellevue, near impossible in Issaquah, slightly more possible in Newcastle ( The Issaquah-Bellevue-Renton border) and more possible in Renton, so it's a lot more affordable at this point to rent. What kind of real estate agent am I, telling you to rent?
